Madrid, 13 October 2011 – You are invited to participate in the second Data Journalism meeting on 20 October at 17 hrs at Medialab Prado, Madrid. The high level speakers are of Xaquín González Veira (The New York Times), Annamarie Cumiskey (Bureau of Investigative Journalism), Mar Cabra (International Consortium of Investigative Journalists – ICIJ) and David Cabo (Pro Bono Publico).
Experts from the United States and UK will discuss with leading Spanish journalists and data visualisation specialists their successes and challenges. The panelists will debate the urgent need for an access to information law in Spain.

Data Journalism is a new understanding of investigative journalism that works with databases as main source of information and working with them to unveil the stories behind them. As information and data is the basis of any investigation, having good systems for access to information is essential to undertake this kind of investigations.
Based on the experience and real cases presented by the panelists, during this session various areas of this new form of investigation will be explored. For example experiences of a first attempt to access data, the treatment and approaches to managing the data, and the visualization of the data, will be presented.
