This event is organised by the Office of the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media.

The Conference will bring together some 120 participants, including from government institutions, media outlets, academia and international legal organisations, to discuss the importance of access to information, the role it plays for openness and transparency in our societies, lessons learned from participating States in defending and upholding this basic human right, and the challenges that Access to Information faces ahead.

Helen Darbishire’s speech will focus on open data and the extend to which traditional Access to Information laws may have been superseded or become less necessary due to the huge amounts of data which proactively published.

  • Mate Szabó, Director of Programs, Hungarian Civil Liberties Union, Budapest
  • Dave Banisar, Senior Legal Counsel, Article 19, London
  • Andrey Rikhter (Moderator), Senior Adviser, Office of the OSCE RFoM
