Access for Rights: Planned Information Request Actions 1 February 2011, Madrid/London: During the project on Access for Rights, Access Info Europe and Statewatch will use Europe’s access to information laws to get comparative data on civil liberties issues. The goal is to generate information that can be used in advocacy to defend democratic rights. Action: Joint Requests on Data Retention 10 March 2011, Madrid/London: Access Info and Statewatch are inviting civil society across Europe to take part in the first joint information request campaign under the Access for Rights Project.The goal is to present the same request to governments across Europe and then compile the responses for use in human rights advocacy work.

The Open Cyprus Project launches its Report: access to information is the exception and silence the rule in Cyprus. 24 February 2011, Nicosia/Madrid: With a level of 75% of administrative silence in response to information requests, public bodies across the island are violating the public’s fundamental right to know according to the Open Cyprus Project. The largest ever monitoring of access to  information in Cyprus found systematic breaches, in particular the non-responsiveness of public bodies resulting in 72% administrative silences in the Republic of Cyprus and 78% administrative silences in the northern part of Cyprus. Ten Open Data Guidelines launched in Tbilisi Access Info Europe welcome the publication this week of the Ten Open Data Guidelines drafted by TI Georgia, in consultation with Access Info Europe. These guidelines are designed as a guide to help agency heads, IT managers, and web developers create open data websites. The guidelines provide details of how these are to be achieved. They provide a useful structure which Access Info recommends as a model for the elaboration of similar principles in other countries and at an international level.

Barcamp: Data Journalism Pro Bono Publico and Access Info Europe are organising a Barcamp about Data Journalism on Tuesday the 15th of february at 17:00 in MediaLab Madrid (Plaza de las Letras. C/ Alameda, 15, 28014 Madrid – Metro and Train Station: Atocha).
